Question by Utshirts: Difference between an import/export license and a sale/resale license?
I am starting my own business and I had a question about 2 licenses. What is the difference or similarities of an import/export license and a sale/resale license?

A resale certificate (it is NOT a license) is issued by the franchise tax board and basically allows you to buy goods without paying sales tax because you will collect that from your buyer; you them send that sales tax to the franchise board yearly or quarterly. That is all a resale certificate does. An import license allows you to import items from outside the country & gives you a break on custom’s duties; it has nothing to do with sales tax.
