Question by potato: does the city of chicago require a food service license to sell coffee?
the city’s web pages on this issue are somewhat vague. I am interested in selling coffee and perhaps some prepackaged foodstuffs out of a retail outlet and want to know if I will be required to have a food service license in order to do so. Chicago doesnt seem to have a grocery license which my proposed business would logically fall under and the foodservice license seems prohibitively expensive for the sort of operation I am hoping to start. If anyone has advice here it would be very appreciated.

If the customer serves themselves you do not need a license. If you serve the coffee to them you need a license.
