Outstanding twin cord trimmer with lots of power, makes mulch of tall grass and weeds. It was purchased to replace a 18V battery operated trimmer that would not last very long on a charge, even with two batteries and a hi-power charger most of the time it petered out before finishing around our house which sits on a small 60 x 80 lot. The disadvantage of using an extention cord is quickly offset by the power and ease of use of this trimmer. I highlt recommend it, good quality at a low price.

This product may work every bit as well as everyone says, but I never got the chance to find out. Before the trimmer can be used, the grass shield must be screwed onto the motor housing. This is a very good thing. The last two string trimmers I’ve used (Weedeater XT114) bit the dust because the grass shield is merely twisted into place onto the plastic housing, and when the plastic threads wear down, the shield flies off and the unit will no longer operate. So I was glad to see that the grass shield on this unit is held securely in place with four metal screws.
However, the Earthwise ST00015 almost seems to be cleverly designed to make the installation of these screws next to impossible. The spool holder on top of the motor housing very slightly overlaps the screw holes. The spool holder is not solid, but is vertically slotted all the way around at the bottom, where it comes in closest contact with the motor housing. It is therefore necessary to position the spool holder such that one of the slots between the slats in the wheel is positioned directly over the screw hole. Then the screw must be angled slightly to feed it into the screw hole. This might work fine if the spool holder could be held perfectly still. What actually tends to happen is that the easily spinning wheel knocks the screw into the slot in the base and from thence directly into the motor housing. This process is aggravated by the fact that the weedeater seems to be weighted in just such a way as to make it difficult to hold the motor housing and spool holder upright. The overall effect is to create a very powerful and efficient black hole for screws!
After many tries and many curses, I was able to install the first three screws successfully. The fourth screw finally disappeared into the bowels of the motor housing. No amount of shaking, finessing, or tweezing could get it out. There is no way to disassemble the motor housing to get at lost screws. Even the helpful handyman at the hardware store gave up and told me to return the unit, as it was not safe to operate with a screw rattling around in the motor. Thank goodness for Amazon’s generous and efficient returns policy! I was easily able to return the weedeater for a refund.
The moral of this story: before you assemble one of these units, put tape around the spool holder to block the slots at the bottom, and secure it firmly in place with more tape. Then cut out just enough tape to expose the slots directly over the screw holes before installing the screws. Or, if this sounds like too much trouble to you–select a different brand of weedeater, as I will.

This weed-eater has power and is light to carry around. The product is durable and easy to use. I like how easily the string is replaced and or change your cutting angle.

I bought this trimmer after my toro trimmer broke. It was a good thing that the old trimmer broke because I didn’t know how much I was missing. After reading all the reviews online, I ended up with the Earthwise trimmer. I agree with a lot of the reviewers. I like the power it has to cut through thick grass. I also like the semi-automatic line feeder rather than the fully automatic. Automatic line feeders have tendency to waste trim line, this one doesn’t have that problem. Every time the trimmer winds down, it feeds the line forward just by an inch. This is a very nice feature and good balance between fully automatic and bumping the trimmer head. I was able to trim my yard much faster than before because the line didn’t break at all. Remember that the line is forwarded every time you stop, that feeds just enough line that I never had to stop to reset the line. Good trimmer and good price overall

The first thing to do is replace the supplied round nylon line with a “commercial grade” bladed type. Otherwise, you’ll get frustrated with constant breakage on dense weeds. If you wind the line evenly the auto-feed should work with few hitches. You have to stop and restart the motor to advance the line 1/4″ at a time.
Because of the heavy motor, this trimmer is like holding a handful of golf drivers, but the balance is decent. It runs at high RPM with strong torque and should cut all but the stringiest weed-type growth. I was able to clear 1,500 sq. ft. of 2-foot “hill grass” that would have stalled many gas lawnmowers at high clearance. But even the best line will start breaking if weeds are too dense or cuttings keep piling up in its path.
An extension cord requires planning your cutting path, but isn’t hard to get used to. A 100-foot 10-amp. cord did the job. It’s nice to not breathe fumes or annoy neighbors with a 2-stroke engine. This model is impressive in situations where a gas trimmer would be overkill.
