The term ” Agriculture” is a pretty broad subject, and there are several great schools throughout the world that offer great courses. But it would really depend on what type(s) of agriculture your interested in, then go looking for a school !

My good youth: you are young – and the ‘world’ is ahead of you. I am a small wheat farmer, trying to eek out a meagerr living off my farm. Farming has become very high tech in recent years. The main reason is: the older farmers are dying off. This is leaving room for the younger folks to fill the void. However, with machinery costing so much, one has to inherit a vast fortune or be rich! A “small” farming operation can cost over $ 1,000,000.00 just to get started. Personally, I wish I had enrolled in AG-SCHOOL. However, at 65 it don’t matter much. Not much time left to get a good “foot hold”. Being single – living alone – I am part-time farmer; part-time trucker; and working out part-time for a National Rental Concern. So, I’m busy as I want to be. I learn something NEW everyday. Would I leave the farm? Don’t think so! I love thesolemnn lifestyle and hard work. I am learning about the various crops available in the local area. They, being WHEAT, CORN, MILO, SUNFLOWERS, Alfalfa and “new” crops coming available from KSU experiment stations. Some are good – some are not-so-good. Cattle is still a good main stay – but, takes a lot of land to feed. My “thought” would be to seek every available resource you can and LEARN as much as you can. Go out into the farming communities and TALK with the “older” folks. Take heed to their instructions. Could save you a LOT of heartaches down the road. GOOD LUCK young man! God Bless!

  2. kayakdudeus Said,

Most state universities have agriculture programs. You can learn about growing things, the business end of things, .. all of it. Personally, I went to Cornell University Agriculture (the Ag school). They had working farm plots, a dairy barn, lots of computers, and even Vetenary Medicine programs.

Check with your local state university and ask for the Ag catalog and an application.
