I’d put them out of business so WE can eat the grain instead. More efficient, skip the bovine/porcine middleman.

Aren’t they already doing this to America… I know they are in CA, and Georgia already.

Mass produced govt-subsidized corn is more destructive to the environment than any animal farmers. Though I wouldn’t mind in the least if all torturous factory farms (also govt-subsidized) went out of business.

The GOP is putting everybody out of business by shipping jobs overseas to countries that don’t have to abide by our labor and environmental laws.
It’s so nice of you to help the GOP pull us down to third world standards instead of joining us “Libs” to fight and bring them up to our standards.

Actually, alot of Republican politicians are the ones that would like to stop the government from subsidizing farmers.
The more liberal ones are always trying to give them more free-bees.

I wouldn’t mind regulating the way they run a little more, but I think putting them out of business would create more problems than it would solve.

Give them time. Their employers, unless related to the owner, don’t care about their employees either and what they feed these animals is a threat to us as well. All is connected with the big scheme of things. Think about it.

Heck, no, I would like to see the HUGE farms go out of business though and for us to go back to getting our meat more locally from small farmers. The animals would be happier and the meat better for us.

as an AMERICAN Liberal I want all farmers to prosper, and Have The US stop the importation of foreign meats and Veggies or Grains for that matter. Lets stop purchasing for foreign nations and start spending American Money in America that might help the ECONOMY, and create jobs. Oh that’s right it will infringe on the Capitalist Free Market system. Because an American would demand a fair wage and Price for their Product Ie. Meat and other AG products. and that would infringe on the corporate CEO from getting his 15,000,000 salary instead of making say 4,000,000 because they can’t live on that low wage……..

None of us, in fact many of us are becoming farmers.

None, but of course this is a rhetorical question.
Fun fact: Currently, every WEEK, the US exports 1.4 million tons of wheat, 2.8 tons of corn, and 2.2 million tons of soybeans.

I wondered about this too so last month I commissioned a survey asking the very same thing and I am pleased to announce that the results are in from Paul Grass Surveys Inc. a div of Paul Grass Industries, and the results are 65% of liberals would like that, 15% did not understand the question 10% had to ask their spouse what they thought, 5% colored on the form, and 5% were undecided

Not me.
I would rather have a few buyers regulated by local cooperatives purchase agricultural products, and then sell those products to markets and food companies. That way the farmers themselves can regulate the saturation of the market.
Right now alot of farmers sign contracts to food companies. This isnt so bad when commodity prices are high and water for irrigation is very available (obviously I’m taking about the West when i say this), and transport costs are low. But there are two problems with this: drought years and rising fossil fuel costs. This can severely damage already tight margins for most farmers.
Ontop of this many food companies (especially in the chicken industry) saturate the market with as much prodct as possible to lower the unit price. Farmers have to then harvest more and more every year just to get the same amount. This isn’t fair to farmers are all since this is largely out of their control.
I say put the control back to the producder. I think this can only happen with monopsony purchasers that are composed of local cooperatives, regulated by the farmers themselves. Then they cna collectively negotiate prices that are fair to farmers…. putting them back into the loop.
