Question by Jim: Is anyone besides me pissed that our government subsidizes ethanol production?
Ethanol production requires 29% more energy to produce than it yields. Ethanol production has tripled the price of grain and is driving livestock farmers out of business and is driving up the cost of food. Poorer countries are especially vulnerable since they can barely afford food anyway. Much of the unrest in the middle east is due to rising food prices, as people are unable to afford basic necessities. It is an example of bad government policy at its worst.
Meanwhile, our government continues to subsidize grain farmers who are becoming wealthy beyond imagination, while ignoring livestock producers who are going broke.
I know, I am a livestock producer going broke in the midst of grain farmers becoming millionaires.

Ethanol is one of those cases were politics is deciding the winner instead of the market. That is why subsidizes and support programs are all bad. Get the government out and let the market decide the winners and losers.
