Best product to prevent woodpecker damage,
This is the second year in which we have purchased the Repeller Ribbon. It worked so well the first time that we ordered again.
We have a clear-heart redwood house–to be protected at all costs. The woodpeckers have very good taste. They think this fine redwood is great too. The only thing we have found to be effective to keep them from damaging the house is the Repeller Ribbon. We place strips near the roof on all sides of the house. Last year was the first time we didn’t have woodpecker holes.

Great in the short run but the birds get used to it…,
I bought this for some friends who live in an apartment building with a terrace. Pigeons had decided they liked it there and nothing these friends did convinced the pigeons to stay away. So we tried the bird repeller ribbon. It worked wonderfully for about a month. We hung the ribbon in strips along the balcony and it scared them for while, but now my friends report that the birds just stand on it and are no longer bothered by the ribbon blowing in the breeze. They are going to reposition the ribbon strips to see if that spooks them for a while longer; maybe if the strips are in unexpected places the pigeons will again get cautious. If that doesn’t work I guess they’ll have to try the spikes method which they’d wanted to avoid.

Didn’t work for Red Winged Black Birds,
While this might work for woodpeckers or other nuisance birds, it definitely does not work for Red Winged Black Birds. We have a problem where male birds like to attack their reflection in our window. They nest in a storm water retention pond near our backyard. These birds are very territorial and will drive off other male competitors including their own reflection. So from 5am or ealier throughout the whole day, it continuosly attacks our windows and leaving bird droppings all over our deck. It’s very annoying and I’ve tried everything. The only thing that will stop these birds from attacking the windows is to fully cover the outside of it so that there is no reflection at all. That means rubbing down the windows with soap or other solution that totally obscures the reflection and you have to use a lot. Eventually I’ll probably purchase outdoor shades, but the problem with that is that you have to have them down all the time which will also be annoying. I really don’t have much affection for those birds now. :)
Other than that, the tape was simple to use, and we can use the portion we didn’t use for decoration or other stuff the kids can play with. There was way more than we needed in the roll.
