Question by Chad H: Why does the government and big business want to control what we eat? It’s all about money right?
control what we eat, our weight, our health, our well being? This is America right, land of the free? I understand people need to be controlled to a certain extent. I also know this is great and we have many more freedoms than many other countries. That’s all well and good and I appreciate that. But how far is too far and when does this country start to not be the land of the free? Like I said, I know human’s cannot be fully free, we can’t have anarchy and have people hurting each other. Do we at least have the right to consume, salt, sugar, butter, fat? Smoke cigarettes in our homes, cars, property, and outside? Do we have the freedom to endanger our health and shorten our life spans by doing things considered unhealthy? You think we choose what we eat? No, the government all uppy on eating right, not becoming obese, losing weight. Whatever we eat now, made with grain, honey, less sugar, low fat, sunflower oil. I want my salty buttery fattning chips back.Hey bacon’s not lean thats good!
To gorman, the 3rd answer, the government is slowly forcing us to eat surtain things. Not by law but by influencing businesses to produce healthier food and food that will help you lose weight. And advertising weight loss, nutritional changes, and everything. If everything we have to buy is more healthy, low fat, wheat, no trans fat, less cals, carbs, whatever. We can only buy what companies make to sell. Unless we have a farm with animals and crops. We grow everything and take from animals, we produce from our own recipes and processes. Like cow milk or goat milk, whole milk, butter. Sugar beats or sugar caine for real sugar, not low cal substitutes, like splenda, equel, sweet & low, etc. But businesses targeting people who eat healthy and want to lose weight, a good part of everything they sell, will be low in fat, sugar, etc. Therefore forcing us to eat the way they want us. An obese person is not gonna be working hard out in the fields, producing their own foods, to eat how they want.

yes, everything must have the spin that it is being done for our own good / protection , but the bottom line , is always about how they get a return on the money.

it’s always been about the money. the government doesn’t want people eating the wrong things because of the health care costs they have to pay. believe me, if health care is socialized, we’re all screwed!!!! the government will probably start writing tickets for over-exposure to the sun. the gov. doesn’t want to pay for the melanoma treatments.

You can eat what you want. No one’s stopping you. The government provides guidelines and stuff, but last I checked there are no food police going around.
