Question by CT81: Women’s business suits… MUST HAVE pants/jacket set, or is it okay to mix & match?
It’s happened a few times where I find great deals on suit jackets (sold as separates, obviously) that I just love, but am unable to find the coordinating pants. My question is: is it okay to mix and match elements from different suit “sets?” The “black” from one designer could be completely different from the “black” from another, the materials are most likely not the same and thus have subtly different “grains,” but does this mean you can’t mix and match? Can you wear a jacket that has black with blue pinstripes and pair it with a pair of solid black suit pants?

You can mix and match, as long as the overall outcome looks fine.

Its ok to mix and match. It’s better this way. You can also use skirts. Don’t mix black suits they are the exception. You can mix different color tones and fabrics.

Believe it or not; A suit jacket looks great with a simple pair of nice jeans. I have had a lot of compliments with that combination.

    Definitely.
MIX + MATCH IS VERY VOGUE!!! *_^
That is what makes people different from each other. If you and another female coworker wore the exact same outfit, what would be unique?
Advice, have only one be striped, and the other solid, it looks better. (ex. black with gray pinstripes, and a solid gray jacket)
Good luck @ work, your new outfits will bring good comments and awe!

Of course you can mix and match. As long as it looks grat on you and you match the colors well. You can even use the jacket with pants or skirt.

Jacket and pant sets are just that: sets. However, you can get creative and find jacket twills with different colors, and then coordinate with pants. I think that you have a smart approach to dressing, because business clothing can get expensive. Yes–be careful with the different blacks (there is a red-based black that looks pretty bad with a dark black.) If you find pants that have neutral weaves and colors, you can probably mix with a lot of things as long as the weaves are matching. Remember that you can also accessorize with jewelry and scarves to make that lasting impression. Yes–be innovative with your clothing, but be careful…there is a “code.” Push the limits, but don’t “rock the boat” too much! Most of all, have fun.

As long as you’re not wearing a plaid brown jacket with striped black and white pants you are probably okay.
I often wear khaki pants with say, a navy blue blazer – I try to avoid patterns amap (as much as possible)
If it looks good, wear it. Any thing looks good with jeans.
